Migrate from ownCloud to oCIS 🤔

"With the launch of the Kiteworks Open Source Program Office on May 5th (https://www.kiteworks.com/open-source), we formalized going forward, everything we do under the ownCloud brand moves toward permissive licensing. Apache 2.0 for new repos, retiring copyleft dependencies and CLAs where we can. That’s our deliberate position on what responsible open source stewardship looks like in 2026.

ONLYOFFICE’s AGPL licensing doesn’t sit comfortably in that framework. AGPL is about as far from permissive as you can get it’s the license that’s currently at the center of the Euro-Office dispute, it’s incompatible with the Apple App Store, and it carries all kind of downstream liability risk. We’ll continue to support ONLYOFFICE because many of you depend on it, and we don’t break things people rely on. But it won’t be where we put our energy going forward.

Collabora’s MPL-2.0 stack fits our philosophy cleanly. That’s where our integration focus is heading." [Matrix]

Just found this today by coincident - and I will evaluate oCIS - especially as the office integration is an important part of my use case. Fortunately my current setup works stable - so I can take my time ...
